It's My Anniversary

Today is my 15th wedding anniversary, so I decided to do break from my normal blog and do something a bit different.

You may or may not know this, but I was born and raised in Hawaii. And I got married there as well.

Another thing you may not know is that it's a tradition in Hawaii, for a bride to dance the hula for her husband.

Lucky for me, I grew up dancing and used to perform with my hula halau (hula troup) at various festivals around the island.

Here's a picture of me at one such festival.

And this one.

This is actually a Maori dance using poi balls. This particular formation was to express paddling a canoe.

Aaaanyway.....when I got engaged, I knew dancing for my husband at our wedding was a no-brainer.

Another thing you may not know about me is that I.LOVE.SURPRISES!

So I kept the hula part of the wedding a complete surprise from my husband.

Needless to say, it floored him; I'm not even sure he knew I danced!

I chose to dance to one of my favorite songs, called Pua Hone (Honey Flower), and one of my closest childhood friends sang it, backed by Hawaiian musical trio we had hired to play.  It was a magical moment and memory.

So, for today, in honor of my husband and one of the best days of my life, I wanted to share the video of my hula with you.

And there you have it.  Today I'm choosing to take time to celebrate one of the most special things in my life, my husband.

What are you most grateful for?
